Dear Parents/Guardians,
School procedures for the arrival and dismissal of students are designed to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Students arrive and depart from school as either bus riders, car riders, or walkers/bikers in an organized format. Last year, school officials reported concerns that could have serious safety ramifications as students designated as “walkers” are arriving at school or exiting campus to an awaiting vehicle.
Any student that resides in the neighboring vicinity of the school and is not eligible to ride the bus is considered a "walker", walking directly to and from home and school. Unfortunately, school officials observed students entering campus from nearby parked vehicles or exiting the campus as “walkers” only to walk to a vehicle waiting nearby. This practice is an obvious safety concern, and I ask for your assistance in resolving it.
This school year, school officials along with local law enforcement will enforce safe arrival and dismissal of students. Any student arriving or leaving school by car will do so using the arrival/dismissal procedure for “car riders,” and parents/guardians should plan to arrive to drop-off or pick up their child/children using the designated “car rider” line along Glenwood from Pecos Street.
Students that exit the building and leave campus from the corner of Glenwood and Roderick Street must be met by a parent or guardian once duty teachers stop traffic. No student will be allowed to walk across the street without an adult. Only students that qualify as a “walker” and who are in 3rd - 5th grade or have a sibling with them in the 3rd - 5th grade will be allowed to walk home without being met by a parent/guardian. The parent/guardian must also give permission in writing to the front office.
Adhering to the school’s arrival and dismissal procedures for students is of critical importance. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter as we work together to provide a safe and secure environment for our students to learn.
Sincerely,
Celeste Pipes, Principal
